About Oliver Tidy

I love this image. It might just depict the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. If you can believe it, it is the wheelchair/pram access that was installed in a school I worked at. There is nothing fake about this image. Please, count the steps. Think about the geometry and physics involved here. I don’t think the people who designed and installed it did.

  1. Hi Oliver, I have just read Joint Enterprise. Really enjoyed it, as I have the first two Booker/ Cash novels, and now the first three R/Ms.
I have read hundreds of books, all purchased through Kindle. I have to say that I have derived more pleasure from your books than just about all others.
I have been inspired to write to you, as an hour ago my wife and I were rolling on the floor laughing as I read to her directly from Joint Enterprise, where poor Romney is being anally inspected by the female doctor, when ‘a pocket of foul smelling air’ escapes. It was the most hilarious encounter I have ever read.
Thank you so much for your wonderful writing. I wish you every success. You truly deserve it. Why you’re not signed to a major publisher is simply bewildering.
    Thanks again

    • Hi Geoff,
Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to get in touch over the reads. It is hugely gratifying to receive such positive feedback for my writing, especially regarding my idea of what’s funny. I have had an enormous amount of fun writing the R&M Files in particular. I remember the doctor’s surgery scene well. 🙂 Not based on personal experience I hasten to add.
If and when you read more in the series, please let me know what you think.
Best wishes to you and your wife.

      • I am on my 6th R and M and realizing that I have only one book left in the series, I really hope that you will write more. I am enjoying them so much. I wish you much success.
        Ana in Ecuador

      • Hi Ana (in Ecuador) 🙂
Sincere thanks for taking the time and trouble to get in touch. It’s always good to know that the books are being read and enjoyed. Thanks.
I’m not sure whether there will be any more R&M FIles. Never say never, but with so little time for writing and so many other project I really want to have a bash at we will see.
        Best wishes and thanks again.
PS You could be my only reader in Ecuador. Great stuff. 🙂

  2. Hello Oliver, I am an avid reader of your Romney and Marsh books, I have read all seven and eagerly await the next installment to the series, I haven’t tried the other books yet, Acer or Booker but might give them a go, i enjoy the R & M ones as I love the detail of the area and local info you put into them, being from Kent, not Dover I feel I can relate to them more, I am also a London cabby and would love to see a R & M book featuring the team drafted into the capital maybe with me dropping them off somewhere, anyway excellent writing, please please continue the R & M series for as long as poss, all the best regards, Terry (terencebradford@aol.com

    • Hello Terry,
Sincere thanks for getting in touch to let me know you’re enjoying the R&M Files. I always enjoy hearing from satisfied readers.
Your suggestion for a future plot device is noted. 🙂 Romney and Marsh in London? Why not? But you know Tom would find something to complain about.
      Best wishes

  4. Hello Oliver
I have just finished A White Knuckle Christmas and really need to know when I will be able to read the next in the series! I’ve grown fond of the characters (especially Romney, bless him!) and your storylines just get better and better. I devour books at a rate of knots and yours are the best I have read in ages. No crime fiction aficionado should miss out on Romney and Marsh!
Very best wishes and thank you. 🙂

    • Hello Julie,
Thank you so much for your lovely comment on the R&M Files. I just this moment sat down to write something (not a R&M, sorry) and your message came through to put a smile on my face.
I’m not sure if there will be another R&M File. Sorry. I haven’t decided yet. I’ve had a lot of fun writing them but there are other writing projects I’m itching to have a go at and time is limited. If I do revisit Dover CID it’ll be a while.
Thanks again for your kind words and time and trouble to get in touch.
      Best wishes

  5. Hi Oliver

I downloaded your first Romney and Marsh novel as a free download to my kindle. I have now become addicted to them! I have read the 2nd and have now started the 3rd and really enjoying them. Keeping writing, looking forward to reading the rest.

    • Hi Kate, many thanks for your time and trouble to get in touch with such a great comment. Much appreciated. Good to know that you are enjoying the R&M Files thus far. I hope you enjoy the others as much.
      Best wishes

  6. Hello and good morning ! As requested I am getting back to you following my completion of the Romney and Marsh series . Very enjoyable , liked the mordant wit and one liners , so enjoyed the little mention of Dr Syn , one of the most enjoyable tales ever written , and the R 4 , reading by Rufus Sewell was brilliant . Nice sideline to the ‘ off piste ‘ lifestyles , of Romney and Marsh . Thanks again enjoyed them all . May have a bash at some of your other work , as this Kindle lark envelopes me .

    • Hi Clive,
Many thanks for your time and trouble to feedback with your ongoing R&M Files experience. It is genuinely encouraging and pleasing for me to learn that you’ve enjoyed them. I have had a lot of pleasure writing them.
If and when you get around to trying another of my series, please let me know what you think.
      Best wishes.

  7. Hi I have just finished bad sons I could not put it down and have read almost none stop in 1 day, needless to say I really enjoyed it, my 1st time reading your work, it won’t be the last.

    • Hi Rob,
Sincere thanks for your time and trouble to get in touch with such positive feedback for Bad Sons. Good to know you enjoyed it. Booker & Cash are my most recent series and the one that I feel I’ll be concentrating on in the near future – #3 is in the pipeline but on hold, like the rest of my life, while the European football tournament is on 🙂
      Best wishes

  8. Hi Oliver,
I’ve just finished reading Particular Stupidities, and wanted to drop you a line to say how enjoyable the experience has been.
Up until I discovered your writing I rarely read sequential novels. I moved on to RM after the first two BC’s, and have never looked back. Now, after reading numerous passages to my dear wife Helen, she is now treading a similar RM path. Can you picture it? The two of us lying in bed at night, she on her Kindle, me on my iPhone devouring your wonderful writing at an ever increasing pace. Each morning, at the breakfast table, we discuss where we are both at with our particular RM novel. Being two or three novels ahead it is tricky for me not to give away any spoilers.
Incrementally, each novel is better than the last. How that is possible is an absolute credit to you.
Please be assured, wherever your future writing takes you, we will be pursuing it with great enjoyment and enthusiasm.

    • Hi Geoff,
What great pleasure I took from your message. It made my day. Thank you sincerely for your time and trouble to get in touch. I’m really pleased to learn that you and your wife are enjoying the R&M Files.
Your message came through as I was enjoying Sunday lunch with the family (my mum told me off for checking my smartphone at the table if you can believe it – I’m 53!) and I was happy to be able to share your kind and amusing words with them all. Just great.
I can only hope that the remaining books in the series continue to entertain you and your wife. I hope you’ll let me know when you’re both done with them and any others of mine that might stray onto your internet enabled devices. 🙂
      Very best wishes

  9. First time I have read any of your books, thouroughly enjoyed the Rope enough Romney and Marsh book. I like to read authors who write and set novels in the UK, always great feeling to think you know where the characters are, maybe even been there. Now look forward to reading the other R&M novels. Keep up the great writing and thanks for doing so. Will make sure I recommend you to friends and family

    • Hi Bob,
Many thanks for your time and trouble to leave a positive and encouraging comment on R&M File#1. Good to know you enjoyed the read. If and when you get around to the others in the series I hope they continue to please.
      Best wishes

  10. Enjoying the Romney and Marsh series. I will give the other series a try as well and will provide a constructive review on all books. Well done for highlighting Bowel Cancer and getting Romney to seek help. It was funny but at the same time important for him to be examined by the lady Doctor. So if there is anyone out there who has any concerns go to your GP. Also on book three you done a good link with the Zeebrugge incident and delivered it will.

    • Hi John,
Many thanks for your positive feedback on the reads and a couple of the more sensitively aspects of them. Always good to know that the books are being read and enjoyed. If and when you get around to my other series, I look forward to seeing what you think.
      Best wishes

  11. I want to add my kudos, lover RM and BC and now moving onto AS. As much as I love your books – sometimes laugh out loud funny – I am really impressed how you respond to each of the comments here. That is really lovely.

    • Hi Frances,
Sincere thanks for your comment. Much appreciated. It’s always encouraging and pleasing to know the books are being read and enjoyed. Thank you also for remarks about my contact with readers. It’s my pleasure to interact with readers who take the time and trouble to get in touch. Writers are nothing without readers.
      Best wishes

  12. Dear Oliver, I have now read all of your books, and would thoroughly recommend them as a jolly good read. They are well written, have well constructed plots and are first class page-turners.
One criticism – ocassional use of unecessary bad language.
    Please keep them coming.

    • Hi Peter,
Many thanks for your time and consideration to leave a very positive comment. Sincerely appreciated. I’m always happy to hear that the books are being read and enjoyed. On the language issue , I’m not a big fan of bad language in the books I read and I do try to keep it to a minimum in the ones I write while remaining faithful to how I imagine my characters would react in certain situations.
      Best wishes and thanks again

  13. Hi Oliver
I downloaded the first of your Romney & Marsh books as a free one on Kindle by accident. My wife asked me to find her some books on the Romney Marsh as we live in Hythe, I downloaded yours and thought I would read it. I’ve become so hooked on them that I have now read all seven Romney and Marsh books and will move onto the Booker and Cash ones next. It was great in the Romney and Marsh books to be able to relate to lots of the places that you mention in your books. Every one of them has been a good read. Keep up the good work.
    regards
    Richard Mansfield
    Hythe – Kent

    • H Richard,
Sincere thanks for your time and trouble to leave a very positive comment on the books. Much appreciated, as are your downloads. I’m always made happy to hear from readers who are enjoying them. I had a lot of fun writing them. I hope Booker and Cash work for you as well.
      Best wishes

  14. Hi Oliver,
I am reading the last Romney and Marsh book at the moment and I am hoping the next one will arrive in my Kindle as I finish so there will be no gap. I am really enjoying them. iLife to read British detectives and I love the descriptions you include of Dover and the surrounding area. The characters are quirky yet eminently believable. The crimes are also very believable and not too full of blood and gore. I especially liked the sympathetic way Joy continued to keep Helen the elderly lady in mind and didn’t just think she was dementing. I haven’t yet tried your other novels but I am sure to dip in soon. Publishers don’t know what they are missing. Thank you so much for keeping me hugely entertained. Sheelagh Kelly

    • Hi Sheelagh
Many thanks for your very kind comment. Sincerely appreciated. Really good to know that you’re enjoying the R&M Files. I had a lot of fun writing them. If and when you get around to one of my other series, I look forward to learning what you think.
      Best wishes.

  15. I was going on holiday to Dover and was amused by the Romney and Marsh link so started to read the first novel. I was so caught up with the characters that on the second day I downloaded 2 more and then 2 more and now have just finished the 7th one in under 2 weeks. Thanks for the ride!. I cant remember when I have laughed out loud at a book but yours made me. Also cried when we lost you know who (don’t want to be a plot spoiler) I really miss him. Please dont leave the series altogether and leave my new friends in cyberspace. I have really enjoyed this series and intend to do something I rarely do and that is re-read them all over again. Keep writting and entertaining us please

    • Hi Ruth,
Absolutely loved your comment. Thank you very much for sharing your R&M Files experience here. You made my day. And as for re-reading them – is there a higher compliment that a reader can pay a writer?
Best wishes and thanks again. 🙂

  16. Hi Oliver,
Just want to thank you for the Romney Marsh Files. I have now finished all seven and loved them all. I normally like to read “stand-alone” novels, but having read the first in the series just had to go on. Each book better than the last. I’ve even got my wife on to RM. She on her Kindle, me on my iPhone.
I’ve also read the first two BC books also. So will explore the rest of your writing.
    Thanks again.
    Geoff.
    Perth. Western Australia.

    • Hi Geoff
Sincere thanks for your time and trouble to leave such very positive feedback, and for your support of my writing. All much appreciated. It’s always good to learn that the books are providing some reading pleasure, especially so far from home and by more than reader in the household.
Best wishes to you and your wife.

  17. Hello Oliver,
I have just finished A White Knuckle Christmas your latest Romney and March Novel. My husband and I find your story lines gripping and your chacters jump off the page. Unfortunately every time I start on a new book the housework comes a second best and this book has seriously delayed my packing readt for my holidays. Keep up the brilliant work, don’t change the characters. Thank you for some super reading. Lea

    • Hi Lea,
Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to get in touch regarding the R&M Files. Much appreciated as are your downloads of the series.
Hearing from a reader who has enjoyed the Files is always a good start to my day. Thank you.
I hope you managed to pack for your holiday in time and don’t worry about the housework – it’ll still be there tomorrow. That’s my philosophy anyway.
Best wishes to you and your husband and thanks again.

  18. Hello, I would just like to say thank you for the Romney and Marsh series so far, I have read each one and thoroughly enjoyed them all. I have particularly enjoyed being a part of their growing professional relationship. I enjoy your style of writing and am now going to start reading some of your other titles, however I will anxiously await the next appearance of R & M.

    Thank you
    Geoff Thompson

    • Hi Geoff,
Many thanks for your time and trouble to leave such positive feedback on the R&M Files. Much appreciated as are your downloads of the series. I had a lot of fun writing them and it’s always good to learn that the enjoyment has been shared with a reader.
Here’s hoping that whatever you try next proves as rewarding.
      Best wishes.

  19. Hi Oliver,
Well, I finished B&C and RM, so have moved on to Acer – Dirty Business. What a book! Completely different in style to BC and RM. This is more hard edge. As I wrote on Kindle comments – I couldn’t put it down. Kept me up unti 2.00am.
What intrigued me most was the character portrayal of Acer, Tallis, and Eda: a soldier, police officer and journalist, and how each had a different thought process in dealing with the bad guys. Particularly Acer and Tallis. I am ex military myself, so it was interesting to soak up the wisdom of a good old fashioned cop versus the impulses of a highly motivated soldier.
Needless to say, I’ll be reading the next two.
You really are a wonderful writer. I just hope you are not a CWAP for much longer and are signed up to a major publisher. IMO you’re up there with the very best.
    Good on yer mate.
    Geoff. Perth. Western Australia.
P.S. Just read your latest blog re building “a writing room”. Is that marked area next to the house reserved for the construction? It appears to be a tad on the small side. Your talents, I would think, deserve something far more grandiose.

    • Good morning Geoff,
Very good to hear from you and with such positive and encouraging feedback for Acer. Thank you for giving him a try. I’m really pleased you liked Dirty Business. I think the next in the series is better. There are four out now, so plenty more reading to go. I hope you’ll get as much enjoyment out of reading them as I did writing them.
Yes, that meagre space is the allotted construction site. I’m not sure how much room they’ll be for me and my laptop by the time it’s filled with the bicycles and lawn mowers and tools that are currently cluttering up my bedrooom.
And thank you, sincerely, for your kind words for my writing. Knowing that the books are entertaining readers as far away as you are is a real and honest thrill for me.
All the best and please let me know how you go with Acer.

  20. Hi Oliver,
Three weeks ago I read the first of your R&M books as a kindle freebie and I was hooked. I have since completed the series along with all of your B&C and Acer Sansom books. I was drawn into each one. Your style of writing is compelling, your main characters charismatic and your plots exciting. Your sarcastic wit is right up my street and I particularly loved Romney. How long before your next book? I can’t wait.I wish you all the success you so well deserve.
    Best Wishes
    Vera Lawton

    • Hi Vera,
My sincere thanks for your time and consideration to leave such positive feedback on my books. Getting through all of them in such a short space of time is no mean feat and I take it as a huge compliment. Thank you. It’s always good to learn that the books are being enjoyed along with my idea of what’s funny.
I’m on a bit of a break at the moment but hope to have B&C#3 out before Christmas.
Many thanks for your good wishes for my writing, your downloads of the reads and for your kind words of encouragement.
      Best wishes

  21. Hi Oliver,
I really enjoyed Loose Ends. Your imagination knows no bounds – putting Acer through so many trials and tribulations. I left a brief resume on Kindle books. The only disappointment was the departure of Tallis and Eda. I was hoping that Tallis would become an integral character in the series.
I’ve noted there are only two titles left in the series. I intend to hold off reading them until later this month when I head up to the Shangri La in Singapore for a short break. I intend to laze round the pool, drinking gin and tonics copiously while reading Acer.
Then on my return to Perth there will only be your three short stories left for me to read. Done and dusted. So I hope you get that extension completed soon and then onto writing something else for me to read.
    All the best.
    Geoff. Perth. Western Australia.

    • Hi Geoff,
Great to know that Loose Ends didn’t disappoint. Sorry about Tallis and Eda. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I’ve had a few other comments about them
Enjoy Singapore. I’ve never been but it looks fantastic. I hope Acer continues to entertain you. Do let me know.
Concrete base down this week. Now for the hard bit. I’d rather be writing.
      All the best

  22. Three Short Blasts; Booker & Cash; missing a closing speech mark after this bit (after John-boy):

    Jo said, ‘Goodnight, John-boy.

Caught my eye as I read….. One of those typos that get through proof reading.

  23. I was hooked with the first book I read. What fun! What a white knuckle ride! Just finished the last Acer book and so glad. At least now I can come up for air… Love your work. Definitely, more please.

    • Hello Sue
Many thanks for your time and trouble to leave feedback on your reading experience. I’m very pleased to learn that you enjoyed the Acer novels. Thank you for your kinds words for my writing. Hearing from readers with positive comments makes my day.
      Best wishes.

  24. Have just finished book 6 in the Romney and Marsh files. Have enjoye them all so far ven thoughI have some questions about unresolved matters. In book 6 my question is “What happened to the lawnmower thieves?”

    • Hello again, Anne,
I appreciate your ongoing interest in the R&M Files.
I can answer this query because I’ve been asked before and the answer has stuck.
Two reasons: One, the lawnmower thieves were located in an area outside of the jurisdiction of Dover and police and so subsequent follow up of their activities would, as i understand it, having been taken over by the relevent policing authority (that would include the tragic event that occurred at their offices). Two: This suited me because after due consideration I really couldn’t see how pursuing all that would have added anything to the read. Better to pass it all over. The plot device had served its purpose.
      Best wishes.

  25. Hi Oliver,

I have just finished your last book in the Romney and Marsh series., a “White Knuckle Christmas “. Well done. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was entertaining, a good read and was logical. I was happy that there were no major loose ends. Well apart from Justin and Romney’s share of the thesis. The books seemed to improve as I read through the series or was I just more accepting of the characters and their personalities.

I hope you decide to write another Romney and Marsh tale. Count me in!

    Regards
    Anne

    • Hi Anne,
Firstly, sincere thanks for your support of and interest in the R&M Files. I’m so pleased to learn that you finished them and enjoyed them. I had a lot of fun writing them.
I’m not sure that there will be anymore. I see the R&M Files as something of my writing apprenticeship (if that doesn’t sound too pretentious). And now I have a number of other writing projects that I really want to have a bash at. Time and space to do that are the commodoties I’m in short supply of, sadly.
      But never say never. 🙂
Thanks again and all the best.

  26. Hi Oliver,

I have enjoyed R-M series a lot and I am so looking forward to read a new one. Please can you write any faster? 🙂 I have been visiting amazon on your page to see if the new one is out! I am a big fan of your humor and writing style.
    Thanks,
    S

    • Hi Shweta
Many thanks for your time and trouble to get in touch. It’s always good to learn that the reads are being enjoyed. Much appreciated.
I’m afraid there is nothing coming soon from my writer’s desk. I’m stuck in the UK under a pile of household maintenance work. I hope to get back to writing again mid October. Fingers crossed.
All the best and thanks again.

  27. HI Oliver I have read all 13 books and think they are up with the best, look forward to the 2
You have in the pope line.

    • Hi Geoff,
Great to know that Loose Ends didn’t disappoint. Sorry about Tallis and Eda. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I’ve had a few other comments about them
Enjoy Singapore. I’ve never been but it looks fantastic. I hope Acer continues to entertain you. Do let me know.

      All the best

  28. I thoroughly ENJOYED this book I will now have to search for the other Acer books . I have read the other series Booker and Cash keep up the good work.
    Regards Mick

    • Hi John,
Many thanks for your time and consideration to leave such positive feedback. That and your support of my writing are sincerely appreciated.
YUI hope to get at least one of those two out into the world in the next month or so.
      Best wishes and thanks again.

  29. Hi Oliver,

Liked Enough Rope very much. Fast pace. Realistic enough, (not bad from a former DI).
Enjoyed it from start to finish.

    PSB.

  30. While my wife was reading her Kindle she was laughing so much that I had to know what she was reading, it was one of the Romney & Marsh books, so that started me to read the series too. What an hilarious trip it has been. As with many of your bloggers here, it also makes it interesting if one lives and knows the areas that are mentioned. I’m surprised that D.C Grimes (may he rest in peace) did not visit “The Pilot Inn” at Dungeness as they have the best fish and chips for miles around!!
Now it is onto the B & C books.

    • Hi Cliff
Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to get in touch. Much appreciated.
Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to learn that my idea of what’s funny has been enjoyed by a reader (or in your case, readers). I had a lot of fun writing the R&M Files.
If you’re moving on to B&C you just might see David Booker in The Pilot, although I don’t think he’s there for food this time. 🙂
All the best to you and your wife and thanks again.

  31. Hi Oliver
Really enjoyed the R&M series and the 2 B&C books, I do like my English crime stories especially when there is some humour thrown in (we must have a simular sense of humour). Pleased to see there will hopefully be a new B&C book out before Christmas, I will be on the look out for it.
    Keep up the good work.
    Kim

    • Hi Kim,
Many thanks for getting in touch. It’s always good to hear from a reader, especially when they share my sense of humour. 🙂
B&C#3 is in progress. The book that’s out around Christmas is called Cold Kills and is a one off snowy survival story.
      Best wishes.

  32. Greetings,
Just finished your first Acer novel having enjoyed it tremendously. Look forward to reading the others in the series and your other popular products.
    Keep up the good work!

  33. Hi, i have just discovered u-read the first 2 R n M over last 3 days, have just purchased no 5 n m looking forward to it. The storyline is realistic, smooth flowing, concise, characters r 3 dimensional, can almost feel i m nxt to R n M as they go abt solving crimes. The unlovable characters r easy to dislike too. Thx for several hrs of enjoyable leisure. Keep it up!

    • Hi Lisa,
Many thanks for getting in touch. It’s always good to learn that the R&M Files are being enjoyed. Many thanks for sharing. I hope the rest of the series fulfills your expectations. 🙂 I look forward to finding that out.
      Best wishes

  34. Hi! Another big fan here. I’ve just finished reading Unhappy families ( I love the Romney and Marsh files) and I’m just about to start A White Knuckle Christmas. And without giving away any spoilers to anyone who hasn’t read book 6 yet, I’m still I shock I finished the last 10/11 chapters whilst I was at the local indoor soft play area (while my kids were enjoying giant slides and ball pools) and I was struggling to hold back tears. I’m still in shock starting book 7. But very authors can get you so involved and invested in characters and the story line like The Romney and Marsh Files so thank you very much and long may they continue.

    • Hi Laura,
Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to get in touch. Always great to learn that there is another R&M fan out there. I had a lot of fun writing them.
I appreciate you not giving anything away with your comment. 🙂 I must admit to shedding a tear of two myself when I wrote it and every time I had to read it during editing. I take it as such a compliment that you were involved with the characters to that extent. I hope that when you get to the last in the series you enjoy it as much.
      Best wishes

  35. Hi Oliver

Love your books. Please don’t give up on your Romney & Marsh books. As you can tell, everyone loves them and can’t wait for the next. Maybe one a year?

    Regards

    Phil

    • Hi Phil,
Many thanks for your comment. It is always genuinely pleasing for me to hear from readers who are enjoying my books.
R&M, as you have probably seen, are, lets say, ‘on hold’ for the moment while I have a go at some other writing projects. I may well come back them sooner rather than later. I do miss them.
      Best wishes.

  36. Hi Oliver, I’m not usually much of a book enthusiast but I started reading the R & M series after taking a yearlong career break to travel the world. I’m only 2 months in and have already finished Unhappy Families (book 6)! Already downloaded book 7 and looking forward to reading the other two series. I may even have to add Dover to my travels, have a coffee in the Premier Inn!

    • Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting in touch. Good to know that you’re enjoying the R&M Files. I had a lot of fun writing them.
A year out travelling sounds wonderful. I took my year out to write and it’s so far so good. I also still have intentions to travel if the books will support me.
I hope #7 proves to be good company, wherever you are now.
All the best and safe travels.

  37. Good morning Oliver. Having just finished the 3rd Acer Sansom book I took great pleasure in downloading Deep State which I am about to devour now. I have read them all AC being my favourite to date. RM books are brilliant also. I got my husband into them and he also is an avid fan. He will be impressed with Acer when he gets started. Acer knocks Jack Reacher into a cocked hat. Keep going. I just love your books. Thank you. Carole.

    • Hi Carole,
That’s great news that you’ve gone onto Acer #4. Sorry about the price on that one. It’s a book that Amazon took on and they set the price. I prefer £1.99 for my books but it’s out of my control on that one.
And good to know that your husband is also reading my books. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
I once had a reader comment that Acer was a poor man’s Jack Reacher so it’s lovely for you to give him a vote of confidence.
I hope you enjoy #4. Let me know.
      Best wishes.

  38. Hi Oliver l would just like to say how much l have enjoyed reading the first two Acer books
I’m ove r eighty years old and my passion is reading l enjoy most forms and read for at least two hours each night .you have hit in on the head with Acer, this type of story appeals to me .
I am ordering the next two books and lm going to start on the R and M books then on to your other series so that l will have a varied library of books to read .over the past couple of years l have read all the Reacher books by Lee Child’s ,but l think Acer has more going for him as he will have a mission in life.after reading book one l thought it would make a great film keep up the first class writing.looking forward to starting the next book

    Thanks Dave

    • Hi Dave
Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to leave such a positive comment for the first two novels in my Acer Sansom series. Much appreciated. Good to know that you enjoyed them.
It makes me very happy and proud when my more mature readers, with all their years of reading experience, get in touch to let me know that my books are still contributing to their reading pleasure. 🙂
Nothing would please me more than to see Acer on the big screen. One thing is for sure, I wouldn’t let Tom Cruise play him.
      Best wishes and thanks again.
PS I take your Reacher remark as a real compliment. Thank you.

  39. Hi Oliver. If I was prone to nail biting, my fingers would be chewed to my knuckles. (Thankfully I’m not). Deep State was another good one for me. It certainly had me hooked and on the edge of my seat. I loved it. Will Acer be coming back? I do hope so. Thank you for some really good reading. I’ve finished them all now and hoping for news of something else in the not too distant future. Thanks again. Carole.

    • Hi Carole,
Thanks for letting me know that Deep State gave you a good read. That’s great. I really appreciate your feedback and your downloads.
I have no plans to write another Acer. If you are interested I did write a short story that comes chronologically after book #4. It’s in my book called Three Short Blasts. It’s only 99p. I felt that the Acer story just tied up a loose end for him and me.
I have a new book coming out on Christmas day. I’m going to list it for preorder soon. It’s something completely different for me. An idea I couldn’t ignore.
Thanks agains and all the best.

      • Thank you for your reply Oliver. I downloaded Three Short Blasts last night and have just started it. Keep them coming. They are all really good. I will keep my eyes open on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Carole.

      • Hi Carole,
My pleasure. I honestly enjoy communicating with readers. So glad you got TSB I hope you like the Acer.
All the best to you and yours. 🙂

  40. Oliver l have just finished your third Acer book another great read l must add,
I do like the way you leave the ending as a start for the next novel .l agree not Tom Cruise a. British actor would be good for Acers part ..I’m going to start on the R and M books then read the next Acer . I just wish l had your talent to write l used to make up stories to tell my grandchildren when putting them to bed one who is now 25 remembers them and still quotes passages…will be in touch soon regards Dave

    • Hi Dave,
Great to learn that Acer is still proving entertaining. Thanks for sharing and for your downloads. And it’s alwasy encouraging to know that a reader who enjoys one of my series is prepared to try another. Please let me know how you get on with R&M.
      Best wishes

      • Oliver just finished my first R and M and loved it ,just the right hint of humour mixed with police work l used to know a old bill with Romney ,s style I’ve just got a new Kindle and will be filling it with the rest of this series .Acers next and then going on to your other books .please keep up the good work . I also read historic novels s about crime so I have a varied reading experience. When your not writing what type of reading do you enjoy..thanks again. Dave

      • Hi Dave,
That’s great to know, thank you. I feel that I really found my stride with the R&M Files about halfway through book #2. I look forward to seeing what you think of them.
I sincerely appreciate your ongoing interest in my writing. As I never tire of saying, writers are nothing without readers.
Just a few names I’m very fond of: Elmore Leonard, Hemingway, Thomas Harris, Chandler, Gerald Seymour, CJ Sansom and my all time favourite writer is Patrick O’Brian.
        Best wishes.

  41. I totally enjoyed the first four Acer Sansom bòoks .
I hope there are more in the future. I liken them to Lee Childs Reacher series, all twenty which I have read. Your writting leaves me egaged not wanting to put down your stories. Well done.

    George Wakeham, Vancouver BC, Canada

    • Hi George,
Many thanks for letting me know that you’ve enjoyed the Acer novels. Much appreciated. I enjoy the Reacher books, too. I take it as a great compliment to have Acer thought of in a similar vein. Thanks for your kind words.
      Best wishes.

  42. Hi Oliver,
I just ran across something that might interest you. I use the fantasticfiction site a good bit. I like to read series books in order, and they provide good info as well as aka titles when they have been renamed – UK to US. That has saved me buying the same book twice more than a time or two! Anyway, there was a banner on the home page that said, “Promote Your Book” and gave a url to provide a sample chapter to viewers of the site. That has to be a considerable number! Here it is, in case you don’t already know it: bookdaily.com/SampleChapters. A new Booker and Cash out soon? Best, Dianne

    • Hi Dianne
Good to hear from you. Thanks very much for the thought and the link location. I’ll go over and check that out. I’m always looking for new ways to promote my books.
B&C#3 will be back under scrutiny next week. 🙂
      Best wishes.

  43. I’ve just read Rope Enough and really enjoyed it (rated it 5* on Amazon).
Love the Romney and Marsh idea, very memorable.
A couple of things marred my otherwise very enjoyable reading experience. “Different to” should be “different from”. There’s an “anymore” which should’ve been two words and “the team were” should’ve been “the team was”. There was another misuse of a collective noun but I can’t remember which it was.
As I said, otherwise very enjoyable and I shall definitely be reading more of your work.

    • Hi Trevor
Many thanks for getting in touch. It’s always good to hear from a new reader, and good to know you enjoyed the first R&M File.
The names have not proved popular with everyone but I’m from that part of the world and when the idea struck me I was never going to choose anything else.
Thanks also for your corrections. I welcome and appreciate constructive feedback. I shall incorporate those suggestions in my next edit.
      Best wishes.

  44. Just finished reading Dirty Business. Great read. Had to get Loose Ends to see how things progress. Newfoundland, Canada

  45. Just finished all the Acer books including the short story thoughrly enjoyed all of them waiting for the next Acer novel..l have also read the first R and M and will be starting book two thank you Oliver keep up the good work… Dave

    • Hi Dave
Thanks for sharing here. It’s always good to learn that the books are being read and enjoyed. I’m genuinely pleased that you liked the whole series enough to try another of mine. Thank you for your support.
      Best wishes

    • Acer Sansom gets his surname from CJ Sansom. What a brilliant series of novels they are.
I don’t find names particularly easy to come up with and for Acer i thought I’d honour a couple of my favourite authors. Sansom for the surname and the first name was orginally going to be Patrick after Patrick O’Brian. Have you read the Aubrey Maturin novels? Wonderful writing, characters, stories. Perfect. And then one day I heard the name Acer and preferred that and changed it.
      Best wishes.

  46. Dear Oliver

I have read all seven Romney Marsh and two Acer Samson with more on my kindle to read.

I’m just starting the first Booker and Cash novel.

I wanted to say I love your books they capture my imagination and take my mind into the book completely.

Living in Ashford I know kent well and love the fact you get the local information correct.

I really hope there will be more R & Mike novels, as I think they are my favourite novel series I have ever read.

    Keep up the good work.

    Rob

    • Hi Rob,
Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to get in touch with such positive feedback. Much appreciated, as are your kind words for my writing and your support through downloads. As a self-publishing author I can’t hope for more than that from a reader.
All the best and thanks again. A great comment to start the working week for me. 🙂
