‘Tis Done…

Unhappy Families (Large)

Remember, Remember the 27th of December

If I should get hit by a bus,

Arrested, deported,

Don’t make a fuss.

You’ll get your copy on time because

Now I’ve ironed out all the flaws,

Pulled out the stops

Against the clocks

And pressed submit

Washed my hands of it.

R&M 6 is ready and waiting

In Amazon’s system

Quietly stating

Its place in the series

Of south-coast crime books

Here’s hoping the tale is a match for its looks.

*

In case that’s a bit confusing for anyone, what I’m trying to say is that today I uploaded the final version of Unhappy Families (Romney and Marsh File #6) to Amazon. So if I drop dead tomorrow it will still get published.

I won’t look at it again. Amazon won’t let me interfere with it now until after publication date. (Can you imagine if I took a peek and saw a mistake?)

I will now spend the next two weeks living on my nerves, medically prescribed drugs and the toilet as I worry about the same things I worry about every time I self-publish a book.

The buck stops here.

  1. Now is the time to push, promote yourself and the book, Try the local boy makes good around Kent. I am hoping one of the bloggers does a Q&A with you(you do have Skype?) Noell said she will try to contact you, Shell Baker too does a blog.

    • Yes, I feel I can give time to some self-promotion now. I’ll be taking your advice and trying some local Kent links. I do have Skype and if anyone wants to get in touch I’m very happy to talk to them. πŸ™‚

  2. You have absolutely no need to worry. So what if I find a few mistakes I couldn’t care less. I’ll be setting my alarm for midnight on 26/12/15 ( perhaps not, hubby might not like that) Or maybe I could sleep in the spare room ?
Oh dear what a dilemma !!!!!!!!! Couldn’t you have picked a day when he was on a night shift?

    • Hi Denise
Many thanks for your encouraging message. Don’t upset your husband on my behalf! I’m sure the read will keep until you’ve got a cup of tea in front of you in the morning. πŸ™‚
      Best wishes.

  3. Really looking forward to getting my copy straight after baby Jesus day. A few weeks ago I drove into the UK from the Chunnel in Folkestone and I took the road along via Romney Marsh. I wished that I’d had a bit more time to see some more of the “sights” mentioned in your books, but I did enjoy my drive through your country, all the way along to Rye and then eventually to my destination in Lewes. Tomorrow, I head back to France and Swizzland, but unfortunately, due to time, it’ll have to be straight down the M20. Happy Christmas Oliver and best wishes for the new book. Russell

    • Hi Russell,
Shouldn’t you be in the USofA by now?
Thanks for your message and the download. Much appreciated, as always.
If you spared a thought for Booker & Cash country as you passed through it then that’s great. (Another one of those books in the pipeline.) This time of year I bet the ‘scenery’ was a bit depressing.
All the best for Christmas to you and your wife.

      • In Swizz for a few days from tomorrow, then in France for Crimble, back to Swizz for a day, then fly to Chicago from Zurich (have to get there from Vevey by train) on the 30th. Finally a five hour drive from O’Hare, with the mutts to Saint Louis, to be in the new “world” by the new year. Reminds me of John Candy and Steve Martin in Trains Planes and Automobiles. The wife hates finding my underps in her wash basin!

      • Reads like a mission. Love that film. I might have to rent it for Christmas, just to feel the festive mood. πŸ™‚
        Safe journey (s).
        Best wishes.

  4. As Julie said don’t worry about mistakes, what she doesn’t find – I will πŸ˜†! You know I will be kind to you though!

For goodness sake relax! Enjoy Christmas and some time with your little one. Time enough to worry about the book on publication day.
    Merry Christmas

    • Hi Dawn
Every time someone mentions ‘mistakes’ my bowels start acting up. (I bet you wanted to know that.) You’ve always been constructively and considerately helpful with your comments and I’ve always been grateful for that.
Living in a Muslim country Christmas will be a low key event, I fear. I don’t even know if there’s Turkey in Turkey. Still, I’ll do my best to enjoy the festive season.
Best Christmas wishes to you and yours. πŸ™‚

      • We are having turkey in Turkey for Christmas. And Santa was born over here, in Patara, which is pretty close to us!! That said, please don’t fret about your books, any of them. They are all jolly good reads and I for one am very surprised that you are not up there with the best of the published crime writers. Keep it up, I will always buy your books.

      • Hi Emmy
Room for one more at the table? I really miss my Christmas dinners.
Thanks for your support and kind words. Good to know that you’re enjoying the reads. I hope the next one works as well for you. Happy Christmas!
        Best wishes.

  5. Stop worrying, everything will be fine – make sure you have masses of toilet tissue in stock though! Merry Christmas from one of your many New Romney women fans!

  6. Too bad that is the day we have the family holiday. While I am keeping track of dinner for 25, in the back of my mind will be the new R&M waiting for me. Have a good holiday and remember I am looking forward to the next Booker and Cash.

    • Hi Brenda
Family is always more important than a book. Mind you if I had 25 descending for dinner I’d probably lock myself away with a good read and pretent to be ill. (Until the food was ready.)
Booker & Cash #3 is started and I’ll be getting back to it soon. Earlyish 2016 for that one.
Happy Christmas to you and yours. πŸ™‚

  7. Just chill man. Tiz the season to be merry. Book will be fine, looking forward to it. Mum called out last night at sewing that your new book could now be pre ordered! To which all your romney marsh lady fans shouted, “we did it margaret, two days ago!!” Lol. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    • Hi Sandie
      I’m coping, thanks. πŸ™‚ Just.
That made me laugh about mum at ‘stitch & bitch’ (that’s what she calls it.) I’m very grateful that the Romney Marsh ladies have secured their copies of R&M#6. Thank you.
Happy Christmas to you and yours. πŸ™‚
